Ultra-Low Power Microwave Radar Sensor for Smart Outdoor Devices—Meet the WT4101A-C04L

In the afternoon sunlight of a community fitness corner, as an elderly person approaches a smart fitness station, a gentle voice prompt plays:
“Welcome to the smart fitness equipment. Please follow the on-screen instructions to operate…”

Scenes like this are quietly appearing in communities and parks across China. Behind them lies the innovation of a Shenzhen-based smart equipment company and the precise sensing capability of Waytronic’s WT4101A-C04L microwave radar sensing module.

From traditional “silent” fitness equipment to stations that can actively detect and intelligently assist users, this shift marks not only a leap in technology but also a major transformation in the concept of nationwide fitness. In this transformation, how to achieve accurate yet energy-efficient human detection in outdoor environments has become a common technical challenge for smart fitness equipment manufacturers.

The “Energy Anxiety” of Green Fitness

This Shenzhen-based tech enterprise has long been devoted to the R&D and production of smart fitness station products. As public awareness of fitness grows, these stations are rapidly being deployed nationwide. They are expected not only to deliver standardized workout experiences but also to provide smart functions such as voice prompts and operational guidance to make the equipment more user-friendly.

However, outdoor deployment presents unique challenges. “Smart fitness stations are usually installed in open areas such as communities and parks. Traditional mains power connections are costly and complex to install,” said a company representative. “Solar power is eco-friendly and economical, but controlling power consumption has become our biggest technical bottleneck.”

Traditional infrared sensors, though relatively low-power, are easily affected by temperature shifts, direct sunlight, and small animals, leading to frequent false triggers. Ultrasonic sensors, while more resistant to interference, consume too much power to meet the strict requirements of solar energy systems.

Thus, achieving precise mid-range detection while keeping power consumption at an ultra-low level became the customer’s most pressing technical problem.

Microwave Radar: The “Smart Eye” Breakthrough

To overcome this, the customer began exploring new solutions and ultimately turned to microwave radar technology. After extensive evaluation, Waytronic’s WT4101A-C04L microwave radar sensing module caught their attention.

The WT4101A-C04L works by transmitting microwave signals and analyzing the time delay and frequency shift of reflected echoes to detect motion accurately. More importantly, it achieves an exceptionally low power consumption of just 42 µA, perfectly meeting the stringent requirements of solar-powered systems.

“Our complete solution includes the Bluetooth module WT2605A, amplifier WT8871, flash memory WT25Q32, and the microwave radar sensor WT4101A-C04L,” said Waytronic’s technical team. “The WT4101A-C04L offers an adjustable sensing distance of 5–8 meters and integrates 50Hz/60Hz power frequency interference suppression and WiFi interference filtering algorithms to ensure stable operation in complex outdoor electromagnetic environments.”

Compared with traditional sensing technologies, microwave radar has clear advantages: it is unaffected by temperature, humidity, airflow, or dust, and can penetrate non-metallic materials like acrylic or glass. Its compact 19.5mm × 18mm × 1.6mm design also makes integration simple and efficient.

With Waytronic’s technical support, the client successfully integrated the WT4101A-C04L into a solar-powered voice prompt system. When a user enters the 3-meter detection range (adjustable), the radar immediately triggers the voice guidance function, providing clear operational and fitness instructions.

Thanks to the ultra-low power design, the entire system operates continuously and stably under solar power. Even during cloudy or rainy days, it can maintain long-term operation with stored energy, effectively resolving the previous “energy anxiety” issue.

Lighting Up the Future of Nationwide Fitness

From community squares to city parks, from school playgrounds to corporate campuses, smart fitness stations powered by Waytronic’s microwave radar technology are becoming new hubs for nationwide exercise. Each precise detection and each intelligent voice prompt silently contribute to the progress of a healthier China.

Under the philosophy of green development, solar-powered smart fitness devices reduce dependence on conventional energy while showcasing the deep integration of technology and sustainability. The ultra-low-power WT4101A-C04L module provides solid technical support for this vision.

Looking ahead, Waytronic will continue to deepen collaborations with diverse clients. With the convergence of 5G and IoT technologies, smart fitness stations will gain expanded functions and stronger digital capabilities, driving further innovation in public fitness.

From traditional manufacturing to intelligent sensing, from single-function devices to rich user experiences, this collaboration between the client and Waytronic stands as a vivid example of China’s intelligent manufacturing and collaborative innovation. In the wave of technological advancement, every small breakthrough has the potential to illuminate an entirely new era.
